Iyo Shinohara Opens Up About Her Secret Career and the People Who Stand by Her
Japanese AV actress Iyo Shinohara has opened up about the unusual path that led her into the adult entertainment industry and the people who have supported her along the way.
Now 32, Shinohara began her AV career at the age of 30, after already getting married and becoming a mother. While her husband reportedly remains unaware of her professional activities, her younger sister and a trusted circle of fellow mothers know about her career and have stood firmly behind her.
“I've been doing this for about a year and a half, and I'm genuinely happy with what I'm doing. Every day gives me something new to experience and learn,” Shinohara said in an interview with Spa!.
From Modeling to Motherhood
Shinohara was once active as a model in her twenties. Her life changed significantly after she married at 27 and devoted herself to being a housewife and mother. As time passed, she found herself spending less time on fashion, makeup and other activities that had once made her feel confident. She eventually began to feel disconnected from the public image she had built earlier in life.
That changed as she approached her 30th birthday. Shinohara wanted to return to the spotlight and regain a sense of purpose and confidence. After considering her options, she made the unexpected decision to enter the AV industry.
“I wanted to be back on center stage and find something that would allow me to continue feeling attractive and confident as a woman,” she explained.
Her Sister Became an Important Ally
Shinohara did not keep her decision entirely to herself. Before making her debut, she told her younger sister about her plans. Instead of judging her, her sister accepted the decision and became an important source of encouragement.
The support eventually went a step further when her sister launched a social media account sharing aspects of Shinohara's everyday life. The account attracted attention and gave fans a glimpse into the person behind her professional career. For Shinohara, having someone in her family understand her situation has been particularly meaningful.
A Circle of Friends Who Never Judged Her
Her younger sister is not the only person who knows about her career. Several of Shinohara's friends, whom she met through motherhood and raising children, are also aware of what she does for a living. Many of them have connections to the beauty industry and regularly offer advice on skincare, appearance and self-care.
What surprised Shinohara most was the lack of judgment from her friends. She said none of them had condemned her decision. In fact, some encouraged her to pursue the opportunity and continue developing her career.
Their friendship has also proved valuable outside of her professional life. Shinohara recalled a hectic morning before a business trip to Hong Kong when her child became ill and she got locked out of her apartment. Her sister and friends rallied around her, reminding her that she did not have to handle every difficult situation alone.
Her Career Has Changed the Way Friends See Her
Shinohara's unusual career has also led to unexpected conversations among her friends. Some mothers have approached her to discuss how parents should talk to their children about sex education. She believes that many parents find the subject difficult and that adults themselves sometimes need to reconsider how they understand and communicate about sexual education.
One friend even told her that parents should educate themselves before trying to teach their children. Shinohara said she was happy that her friends could see her professional experience from another perspective and felt comfortable discussing such sensitive topics with her.
What If Her Child Finds Out?
One of the biggest questions surrounding Shinohara's career is what will happen if her child eventually discovers her work. Rather than avoiding the possibility, Shinohara says she intends to face it honestly. If her child eventually finds her social media accounts or adult videos, she plans to explain her choices rather than hide from them. For Shinohara, the best way to prepare for that moment is to make sure she can look back on her career without regret.
More Than Just an AV Career
Shinohara is currently aiming to establish herself among the industry's top performers. But her ambitions extend beyond appearing in front of the camera. She says that even after eventually retiring, she would like to remain connected to the industry and support other female performers.
“Even if I retire someday, I want to continue working in a role where I can support and be involved with other AV actresses,” Shinohara said.
